We were very lucky to have John Rendall and Derek Cattani visit us on Saturday to sign copies of their wonderful book ‘Christian The Lion – The Illustrated Legacy’.
It’s such an amazing story and a local one too – Christian spent the first year of his life living in a furniture shop on the King’s Road and playing in a churchyard just a minute down the road from us. So it was only fitting to give our customers the chance to meet these lovely gentlemen and hear their tales about Christian.
We were joined by Derek’s dog Minnie and some of favourite four legged friends including Miss Darcy with her brother George and their mum May, and little Oscar with his human Lizzie. The Love My Human dogs didn’t miss a chance for a photo opportunity either!
We were thrilled with the turn out, especially as we were donating 25% of proceeds from the book sales to the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Trust who do such wonderful work in Kenya and Tanzania.
We still have a few signed copies left which we will be selling in our shop along with limited edition prints of Christian’s life in Chelsea, shot by Derek Cattani. Pop by and pick one up – they will make the perfect Christmas gifts! And if you need a little reminder of the love between humans and our four-legged friends, here’s the famous video of Christian being reunited with his Lion Dads.
Last Sunday we hosted our first ever STRUTZ, a charity canine fashion show followed by a silent auction to raise money for a few of our favourite charities.
The idea was born out of a desire to bring the Chelsea community together and give something back. We get to see so many well-loved dogs everyday at LMH but we know that not every dog is so lucky. We chose Soi Dog and Dogs Trust as they both do so much to help dogs who have been neglected and abandoned. We also wanted to support Pets as Therapy as we have some lovely PAT dog friends and we see the all the good work they and their humans do in their communities.
We had over 25 models sign up to walk and the generous brands we work with were more than happy to help, donating jumpers, jackets, harnesses and leads for our canine stars to strut down the dogwalk in, and for us to auction off after. We were also sent dog beds, hotel stays and even a gorgeous Frida Kahloprint to include in the silent auction.
The LMH team and some of our friends who had kindly volunteered their time created a beautiful space on Dovehouse Green, Chelsea, complete with grassy dogwalk and front row seats for friends, family & passers-by to watch the show, and a crowd gathered as our fabulous compere Damian Greenish started introducing each of the models on to the stage.
Opening the show was our very own LMH cover star, Theodore, wearing a gorgeous blue crewneck jumper by Howlpot – a fantastic new brand from Korea. He was followed by Oscar, a little Chihuahua and LMH regular who was walking with his human Lizzie Lewis. Dogs of all shapes and sizes followed them down the runway, from little Poms and Pugs to big British Bulldog best friends Django & Bozley, and rescue dogs from Italy & Brazil.
Following the show the silent auction started, delicious bites were served for dogs and their humans, and goody bags were handed out. Best in STRUTZ was awarded to the handsome Tom Bully before we headed down the King’s Road to enjoy a glass of post-show fizz at Timothy Oulton.
We were thrilled with the turnout and really couldn’t have done it without the support of the brands who donated items for auction, the dog models and their humans, volunteers on the day, and especially Sloane Stanley and @kingsroadchelsea who helped us come up with the idea for STRUTZ.
