A shift in how we think about our dogs' health

For a long time, wellness for dogs meant food, walks, and vet visits when something was wrong. What we've noticed over the last few years, is that dog wellness has moved beyond that simple framework.

Pet parents are now thinking about their dogs the way many of us have started to think about ourselves and our own health. Not just avoiding illness, but focusing on preventative care and building longevity.

For dogs in particular, that means joint health, coat health, mental stimulation, gut health, oral care, mobility support, calming supplements, and nutrition designed around longevity. Things that either didn't used to exist, or were once considered niche, are now front of mind for many pet parents.

Why the shift is happening

Some of it is generational. Millennial and Gen Z pet parents grew up with wellness culture as a given, and they've brought that instinct into how they care for their dogs.

Some of it is scientific. There's more research on canine longevity, on the gut-brain axis in dogs, and on how oral health reflects internal health, than there was a decade ago. Longevity clinics for dogs are becoming a serious category, combining holistic vet care with hydrotherapy, acupuncture and bespoke nutrition.

Some of it is emotional. Dogs live in the centre of the family in a way they didn't fifty years ago. They dine with us, they travel with us, they're part of the family. The care we give them reflects that.

What we're seeing at Love My Human

Pet parents ask us about salmon oil, joint supplements and oral health far more than they used to. That interest is what led us to open a dedicated wellbeing section, both in-store and online.

Like with all of our products, we've curated it carefully. Every product has been chosen because it does something useful. Skin and coat support. Joint and mobility. Calming and anxiety. Digestive health. Dental care. Longevity nutrition. Some are our own products. Some are from carefully chosen partners.

Wellness compounds

The most important thing we've learned watching this shift is that dog wellness isn't a single choice. It's the accumulation of small ones, made consistently, over a number of years.

The dogs we see ageing well tend to have pet parents who did the boring things consistently, for a long time.

We're growing this side of the boutique because it's genuinely useful to the dogs we care about.

Explore our new wellbeing collection online, or come in and let us walk you through it. Every dog is different, and the right products depend on breed, age and lifestyle. That's a conversation best had in person. 🐾
